Micah Pearson is an artist, illustrator, writer, public speaker and mental health advocate living in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Born in 1976 and raised in Washington D.C., Micah studied Fine Art and Photography at the Corcoran College of Art and Design before experiencing his first psychotic episode as a result of the onset of Bipolar Disorder. Since that time, Micah worked in the field of Information Technology for 20 years before circumstances (read: his own mental health) forced him to move across the country and engage fully in his own recovery.
Why is all of this in an artist biography? Because, as stated at the top, he's a mental health advocate, and a large part of his advocacy has been focused on demonstrating that persons with serious mental health conditions can still do things like have gallery shows, illustrate books, and yes...write and publish them as well. Outside of his creative endeavors, Micah currently sits on the national board of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and is a certified Peer Support Worker in New Mexico.
All of this, somehow, finds its way into his work. As does his love of Science-Fiction, Fantasy, Star Wars, Blade Runner and video games. He also felt really odd writing all of this in third person.
